New Here?

WE LOVE VISITORS. WHETHER YOU ARE SEEKING TO KNOW JESUS, LOOKING FOR A CHURCH HOME, OR PASSING BY, WE WELCOME YOU!

WHEN AND WHERE DO YOU MEET?

Saving Grace Church is located on Hospital Road in Indiana, PA, about a half mile south of the IUP campus. We gather on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. for worship and usually end around 11:45 a.m. First we have corporate worship, followed by a short break, then we hear the teaching of God's Word. We also meet at various other times during the week. If you are an IUP student who needs a ride from campus on Sunday morning, we have rides available from Folger Dining Hall at 9:45 a.m.

WHAT IS THE CHURCH ATMOSPHERE?

Inside our doors, you will find a diverse group of people! We have single folks, young families, some college age, empty-nesters, seniors, and many children. Because we are a casual church you will find people in jeans and T-shirts, but also some wearing ties... and everything in between! After the service you will catch us hanging out for fellowship and drinking coffee from our free coffee bar. It's common to see folks quietly praying for others.

WHAT IS THE WORSHIP STYLE AT SGC?

We love to worship Jesus together! While our band often plays contemporary music, we sing some hymns too. What's most important to us about our worship is that it is directed at Jesus. We are intentional about making sure the words we sing are doctrinally sound. You may also notice a broad range of expression during worship.

WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE?

At Saving Grace Church, we are very excited about Jesus; His birth, life, death, resurrection, and His Word are our focus. We know that when checking out a church it's important to know their beliefs, so you can find ours.

WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?

At SGC, we love kids and take their safety very seriously! Kids are welcome to stay alongside parents or visit our Children's Ministry (Kids' Cove) available to kids age one through grade six. After signing your child up for Kids' Cove in the lobby each Sunday, you will receive a security card and any directions needed and will be informed of how we notify parents should a child need you during the service. Rest assured, our entire Kids' Cove staff have criminal and child abuse clearances. More info about our Children's Ministry/Kids' Cove can be found here.

WHAT ABOUT MY INFANT OR TODDLER?

It is common to see infants and toddlers in our church because we have a growing family! We open Kids’ Cove up early for kids ages 2-4, and love to have a special Wiggle Worship time with this age group. And if you are a mom looking for a quiet place to change your baby, feed your baby, or get refreshed, we have a Moms and Infants' room located in our Kids' Cove. There you will also be able to hear the service. Babies or toddlers entering a classroom will need to follow the Kids' Cove procedure outlined above.

WHAT KINDS OF THINGS DO YOU DO IN A BIGGER CHURCH?

Though our church is big for our area with around 450 in attendance on Sundays, we somehow manage to feel small due in part to our small group ministry. To find out more about our other ministries such as our adult, youth, and children's ministries, explore Ministries.

WHAT ABOUT PRAYER?

If you would like prayer, our prayer team is available every Sunday after church in the front of the main room. You may also email or call the church office.

HOW CAN I FIND OUT MORE?

First, if you visit on a Sunday, our Welcome Center is a great place to get some questions answered. Our informal guest reception held after every service offers a chance for you to talk personally with one of our pastors and some church members

Second, other than exploring our website, feel free to call 724.349.7940 or email any questions you have about church and we will get back to you soon.

HOW DO I BECOME A MEMBER?

We are always very excited when God brings believers in Christ into our church family! If you feel like SGC is a good fit for you/your family, you can schedule a membership interview with a pastor. This isn't like a job interview however, but rather a chance for you to share the testimony of how you came to faith in Jesus, discuss church membership, and ask any other questions. If you would like to know more about our beliefs, Our Saving Grace 101 class is offered several times a year and will help answer questions you may have about our church.

We believe that every Christian should be a committed member of a local church. If you are a believer in Jesus Christ and would like to become a member of Saving Grace Church, we would welcome you and want you become a part of our church family. The process of joining is actually very simple.

Step 1: Read over our Statement of Faith, which consists of two sections: our Statement of Basic Beliefs and Doctrinal Positions.

Our Statement of Faith and Doctrinal Positions may be found on our website here or we would be happy to give you a copy.

The Statement of Basic beliefs consists of the most foundational and biblical doctrines of the Christian Faith. While church members are not required to fully explain all aspects of these doctrines, the explicit rejection of any of these basic beliefs will disqualify one from membership at SGC.

Our Doctrinal Positions are doctrinal affirmations we believe to be clearly taught in Scripture and therefore will be taught at SGC. Though this list is not comprehensive, it serves to summarize some of the more prominent points of distinction that may distinguish our teaching and affirmations from other groups.

Should a member or prospective member dissent or disagree with any of the Doctrinal Positions, he or she may remain qualified for membership at the discretion of the elders. However, the member or prospective member must agree to refrain from practicing any sinful behavior contrary to any of these positions; must refrain from participation in any behavior that would undermine teaching on these issues, or promote divisiveness among church members; and must remain able and willing to maintain fellowship and peace with the rest of the congregation in areas of disagreement.

Step 2: Meet with one of the pastors

The purpose of this meeting is to affirm that you have believed in Jesus as taught by the Bible - that he is God who became a man, lived a sinless life of perfect obedience to his Father, died on the cross, and rose from the dead, and are in agreement with our basic beliefs and doctrinal positions (as described above). It is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you would have about the church and if you so desire to let us know you’d like to become a member of the church. If you prefer you can wait until a later time to become a member but if you are in basic agreement with our beliefs and doctrinal positions as described above you can become a member immediately. If you have not yet joined a fellowship group when you become a member, we would encourage you to do that as well.

We occasionally welcome new members on a Sunday morning, to introduce them to the church and celebrate God’s adding them to us. On those Sundays we have new members come up on stage with their families and introduce themselves to the church. Obviously if someone prefers to not come on stage that is fine.

Step 3: Consider taking our Saving Grace 101 Course

This course explains the core doctrines and values we have as a church. We would encourage everyone to take this course either before becoming a member or sometime after. The course consists of eight meetings and we offer it twice a year.
